NFL 2026 · Week 6 · Thursday Oct 15 – Wednesday Oct 21
| Prepared Thursday, Oct 15, 2026 Window: Thu Oct 15 – Wed Oct 21 1 Thursday · 12 Sunday (1 in London) · 1 Monday Byes: Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami, Minnesota · 28 teams play · no games Fri, Sat, Tue or Wed All times Pacific | Games in this report 14 of 14 on the nfl.com slate |
Fourteen games kick off between tonight and Monday night, and every one has its own report. Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota are on bye.
Caleb Williams is expected back in Atlanta after three missed games. Lamar Jackson might be back in Cleveland; the betting line has moved three points on that hope. Baker Mayfield wants to be back in Tampa and his coach says not yet. At least three teams — Atlanta, the Giants and Tampa Bay — will start a quarterback who was not under center in Week 1. And Philadelphia, three losses in a row and a coach under open scrutiny, is a home underdog to Carolina.
The signature, again: the Margin Meter. Every game carries one bar that shows the forecast margin against the market’s line. The coloured bar is how far, and toward whom, this report expects the game to go; the black tick is where the betting line sits. When they sit together, the forecast agrees with the market. When they split, the gap is the disagreement, and the report says why. This week they split hardest in Philadelphia, Green Bay and three games where the forecast takes the underdog outright.
The three must-watch games
Sunday, Oct 18 · 5:20 PM PT · NBC/Peacock
Cowboys at Packers
Last year’s meeting ended 40-40. Jordan Love has six touchdowns and no interceptions against Dallas, the Cowboys have the worst defense in football, and Green Bay will start backups at both corners against CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
Sunday, Oct 18 · 10:00 AM PT · FOX
Bears at Falcons
Caleb Williams returns to face Bijan Robinson, who is running for 5.7 a carry, with Chicago’s best pass rusher suspended. The total has climbed four points to 51.5 and Burkhardt and Brady have the call.
Sunday, Oct 18 · 1:25 PM PT · CBS
Bills at Raiders
The highest total on the board. Josh Allen, six days after the first 10-yards-a-throw, 10-yards-a-carry game in league history, against the defense with the most takeaways and a Buffalo team that has turned it over nine times in three weeks.
Two more worth your time: Panthers at Eagles, an eight-point line swing since May and a Sirianni team that has never lost four straight, and Chargers at Chiefs, where Patrick Mahomes meets the team he tore his ACL against and the 0-5 Chargers try to avoid matching the worst start in franchise history.

Schedule difficulty — schedule already played
Each team is rated on the strength of the opponents it has already faced, not the ones still to come. The primary input is opponents’ SRS (average scoring margin adjusted for schedule, computed from all 79 results so far because Pro Football Reference was not used); opponents’ points for and against per game show the scoring profile behind it, “Opp L3” is the opponents’ combined record in their last three games (recent form), and the combined season record is kept as a check. Teams are split into even thirds by rank: the toughest 11 are hard, the next 10 medium, the last 11 easy.

| 32 | NYG | easy | −7.4 | 21.5 | 27.0 | 6-18-1 | 3-11-1 | DAL, LA, TEN, ARI, WAS |
Tiers are relative, not absolute: a “hard” schedule in a flat year is easier than a “hard” schedule in a top-heavy one. With five games played (four for teams that have had a bye) the ratings are firmer than last week’s but one blowout still moves a team several places. Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota are on bye this week and appear for completeness.
Where the components disagree. The two unbeaten teams playing this week have done it against soft schedules: San Francisco’s opponents are 9-16 (26th) and Kansas City’s 8-12 (24th). The Giants lead the NFC East at 3-1-1 against the easiest slate in the league (opponents 6-18-1), which is why their SRS is −6.8 despite a positive point differential. Baltimore’s 4-1 has come against the second-easiest. At the other end, Miami’s opponents are 20-4 and New England’s 17-8; the Patriots’ +7.5 SRS is far better than a 3-2 record suggests. Two records outrun their scoring: Cleveland is 3-2 having been outscored 112-93, and Las Vegas is 3-2 at +3.
How to read the numbers
Each forecast is a predicted score built from efficiency (EPA per play and success rate, both directions, with the last three weeks weighted as heavily as the full season), scoring pace, personnel, venue, weather and rest, with the betting line weighed as an input. The win probability and the cover chance are both read off the predicted margin, assuming final margins scatter around a forecast with a standard deviation of about 13.5 points; nothing is stated above 90%. Odds are from ScoresAndOdds, taken in one pass at 4:22 AM PT Thursday.
Game 1 of 14 · Thursday, Oct 15 · 5:15 PM PT
Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
SEA under center
Sam Darnold
Week 1 starter
Left the opener after one drive (glute) and returned in Week 3. Seven turnovers in the two losses, three of them fumbles against San Francisco.
DEN under center
Bo Nix
Week 1 starter
Under 6.0 yards per attempt in four of five games. 16 of 27 for 123 yards in the win at the Chargers.

The defending champions against a Sean Payton team whose head coach just took the play sheet back — and a Seattle coach who says Payton is “not my biggest fan.”
2 · Why This Game Matters
Both teams are 3-2 and both are on a short week. Seattle, which beat New England in last season’s Super Bowl, is coming off a 32-29 home loss to San Francisco that left it two games behind the unbeaten 49ers in the NFC West. Denver won 23-17 at the Chargers on Sunday and sits a game behind 4-0 Kansas City.
It is a cross-conference game, so there is no tiebreaker riding on it, but a 4-2 team and a 3-3 team are different things in mid-October, and the loser goes into the weekend having dropped two of three.
3 · The Storylines
Macdonald and Payton do not like each other. In a Graham Bensinger interview this fall, Mike Macdonald said Payton is “not my biggest fan” and described a dispute before the 2024 opener. Seattle won that game 26-20, Macdonald’s first as a head coach. This is the first meeting since.
Payton has taken the play-calling back. He handed it to first-year coordinator Davis Webb to start the season and took it back during the Chargers game, in which Denver gained 224 yards and went 1 of 12 on third down. “I don’t think it was my best,” Nix said. Tonight is Payton’s first full game back on the call sheet.
Darnold’s ball security. He threw for a career-high 379 yards and four touchdowns at Washington and still lost, with two second-half interceptions including a 50-yard pick-six. Against San Francisco he turned it over four times. He has taken eight sacks in the last two games.
Denver’s secondary without its star. Pat Surtain II is out with the ankle he hurt at San Francisco, and safety Talanoa Hufanga is out too. Kris Abrams-Draine starts at corner opposite a Jaxon Smith-Njigba who practised fully Wednesday.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
This is the absence that shapes the game: Denver without Surtain and Hufanga, and possibly Riley Moss, against a receiver room led by Smith-Njigba. Seattle’s losses are at linebacker, where Tyrice Knight starts next to Ernest Jones IV, and in the backfield, where Zach Charbonnet is still on PUP.

Final game designations from the official report (Thursday game). Kris Abrams-Draine replaces Surtain and Devon Key replaces Hufanga, per the Denver Gazette.
5 · How These Teams Match Up
Two good defenses and two offenses that stall. Seattle’s defense is second in the league in EPA allowed and has been better still over the last three weeks; its offense is 25th. Denver is 24th on offense and 14th on defense, and both teams are near the bottom of the league on third down.
The schedules are not alike. Denver’s 3-2 has come against the third-hardest slate in the league (Kansas City, Jacksonville, the Rams, San Francisco, the Chargers); Seattle’s against the sixth-easiest. That is why Denver’s SRS sits below Seattle’s by less than the eye test suggests.

Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Every Seattle loss has been by two points or three; every Denver loss came to a team that is now 4-0 or 5-0.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Darnold against the Denver rush, with no Surtain behind it. Denver sacked Justin Herbert five times on Sunday and Darnold has been sacked eight times in two games. The early downs matter most: if Seattle stays ahead of the chains and gets the ball to Smith-Njigba against Abrams-Draine, Denver’s best player is not there to take him away. If Darnold faces third-and-long, the turnovers come.
Seahawks 23, Broncos 20
Seattle’s defense is the best unit on the field and Denver’s best defender is in street clothes. Payton’s return to the call sheet helps, but Nix has not found the yards to punish a defense this good. Seattle wins it late, and a Darnold turnover keeps it close.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Denver Broncos · +2.5
Denver is at home, at altitude, and its defense is 14th by EPA against a Seattle offense that ranks 25th. Darnold has seven turnovers in his two losses, and the Broncos just had five sacks. One strip-sack or one interception in Seattle territory, and with Payton back on the call sheet Denver needs only a couple of short fields. Wil Lutz has made 106 straight extra points; in a game this low, a field goal decides it.
Game 2 of 14 · Sunday, Oct 18 · 6:30 AM PT
Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
HOU under center
C.J. Stroud
Week 1 starter
1,402 passing yards, six touchdowns, no interceptions. His only turnovers were two Week 1 fumbles.
JAX under center

331 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the 19-17 win over Philadelphia at Tottenham.

Jacksonville stayed in London after a walk-off win; Houston arrives with a new receiver and its first win of the season.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Jacksonville is 4-1 and leads the AFC South; its only loss was 20-13 at Denver. Houston is 1-4 after a 26-3 win at Tennessee ended an 0-4 start, and a loss here would leave it three and a half games behind with the tiebreaker gone.
It is also the first division game for either team, and the Jaguars have not had to travel: they beat the Eagles at Tottenham last Sunday on Cam Little’s 57-yard field goal as time expired and stayed in England.
3 · The Storylines
Marvin Harrison Jr. reunites with his college quarterback. Houston acquired the 2024 No. 4 pick from Arizona on Oct 12. He practised for the first time Wednesday and DeMeco Ryans says he will play, though not a full snap count. Stroud threw to him at Ohio State.
Will Anderson Jr. is coming. He had three of Houston’s four sacks at Tennessee. “We can get four ends out on the field at the same time,” Ryans said. Jacksonville just lost its starting right tackle, Anton Harrison, to injured reserve.
The best team nobody talks about. The Jaguars have the best SRS in the league (+12.4), a top-three defense by EPA and the fewest points allowed per game (14.0). Parker Washington had 124 yards and two touchdowns against Philadelphia.
Houston owns the recent series. The Texans have won three of the last four meetings, including a 36-29 comeback from 19 down last November, and the teams’ only previous Wembley meeting ended Houston 26, Jacksonville 3 in 2019.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Houston’s backfield is thin: David Montgomery (groin) and safety Jalen Pitre (shoulder) were both called week-to-week, so Woody Marks gets the carries. Jacksonville’s problem is on the right side of the line, with Anton Harrison on injured reserve, and at corner, where three of its top four were limited Wednesday.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
On paper this is the strongest team in the division against a team that has played better than its record. Houston’s four losses came by 5, 14, 2 and 4 points; its defense is ninth in EPA allowed and was the league’s best last season. The offense, 13th by EPA, has a quarterback who has not thrown an interception.
Jacksonville is sixth on offense and third on defense, and has been better on both sides over the last three weeks. Its schedule rates hard (10th); Houston’s easy (25th). The Jaguars are also playing their second straight game at a neutral London stadium, which costs them the usual home edge but spares them a transatlantic flight.

Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Three of Houston’s four losses were one-score games. Jacksonville has not allowed more than 20 points in any game.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Will Anderson Jr. against Jacksonville’s right side. With Harrison on injured reserve, the Jaguars will have a backup at right tackle facing the league’s most productive edge from last week. Watch where Houston lines Anderson up on early passing downs. If Lawrence has time, the Jacksonville receivers beat a Houston secondary missing Pitre; if he does not, this becomes the low-scoring game the total suggests.
Jaguars 24, Texans 20
Jacksonville is the better team on both sides of the ball and has had a week in London to settle in. Houston’s pass rush makes it uncomfortable and Stroud keeps it close, but Lawrence makes the two throws that matter.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Houston Texans · +2.5
Houston’s defense is top-ten by EPA and Anderson gets a backup right tackle. Stroud has not thrown an interception all season, so the Texans do not have to win the turnover battle so much as avoid losing it, and Jacksonville’s corners are banged up as Harrison Jr. arrives. Houston has won three of the last four meetings; two sacks on third down and a Harrison catch in the red zone is a Texans win.

Caleb Williams is back, and the first thing he sees is the best running back in football.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Chicago is 3-2 and still last in the NFC North, because Minnesota is 5-0 and Green Bay and Detroit are 3-2. Atlanta is 2-3, half a game behind 2-2 Carolina in the NFC South, and was about a minute from sole possession of first place before Baltimore tied last week’s game and won it in overtime.
The Bears host New England on Thursday night four days later, which makes this the front end of a short turnaround.
3 · The Storylines
Caleb Williams returns. He was hurt on a fourth-quarter scramble against Minnesota in Week 2. In his absence Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum combined for a 56.8 QBR and four interceptions, and Chicago lost 31-7 at Green Bay with five turnovers. He was a full participant on Wednesday’s estimated report.
Bijan Robinson against a defense that cannot stop the run. Robinson has 580 rushing yards at 5.7 a carry and four games over 100 scrimmage yards: 194 at Green Bay, 145 at New Orleans. Chicago is 24th in EPA per rush allowed and is now without its two best edge rushers.
Montez Sweat is suspended. The Bears’ highest-paid player was suspended two games for a PED violation on Oct 13. With Dayo Odeyingbo (quad) also likely out, the pass rush that faces Penix will be mostly backups.
Penix, in Kevin Stefanski’s first year. Atlanta could not reach the red zone in its first two games. Since Penix returned it has scored 35 at Green Bay and 45 at New Orleans and ranks eighth in success rate.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
This game is about who is not on Chicago’s front seven. Sweat is suspended, Odeyingbo is out, and linebackers T.J. Edwards and Keyshaun Elliott did not practise Wednesday — the four players who would be asked to stop Robinson. Atlanta is without its top corner, A.J. Terrell Jr., which matters against a Williams who will finally have time to look downfield.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Atlanta’s season splits cleanly at Penix’s return. Over Weeks 3–5 its offense has produced +0.23 EPA per play, the best mark in the league over that stretch. Its defense is 12th. Chicago’s offense is 12th by EPA and its defense 20th, though most of that was built without Williams.
Chicago’s schedule rates hard (11th); Atlanta’s medium (13th). The Falcons’ 2-3 includes a 34-3 loss to Carolina with Rush at quarterback, which drags its season numbers below how it has played since.

Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Both Chicago losses came after Williams was hurt; Atlanta’s 34-3 loss to Carolina came with Cooper Rush at quarterback.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Robinson on first down against Chicago’s backup front. If Atlanta gains four or more on first down, Penix plays from second-and-short with play-action and the Bears’ thin pass rush cannot get home. Watch Chicago’s safeties: if they come down to help against the run, the play-action shots open behind them. If Chicago can make Atlanta throw on second-and-long, Williams gets the ball back more often than the Falcons want.
Falcons 27, Bears 24
Williams makes this a different Chicago team, but not a different Chicago defense, and that defense has lost its best pass rusher to a suspension in the week it meets the best back in the league. Atlanta runs, Penix plays off it, and the Falcons win a shootout at home.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Atlanta Falcons · +1.5
The betting underdog is the forecast’s winner, so the case is the forecast: Robinson against a Chicago front without Sweat, Odeyingbo, Edwards and Elliott. The Falcons need Penix’s ribs to hold up through a full game and need to keep Williams in the pocket, where a quarterback returning from a hamstring injury is less dangerous. Two long Robinson runs and an Atlanta win at home is the likeliest way this goes.

| Venue | Huntington Bank Field, Cleveland, OH · Open air |
| Broadcast | FOX |
| In the booth | Kevin Kugler (play-by-play), Daryl Johnston (analyst), Allison Williams (sideline) |
| Weather | NWS: sunny, about 58°F at kickoff rising to the low 60s, southwest wind near 9 mph, no rain. The wind and rain forecast for Friday clears out by Saturday. |
Todd Monken spent three seasons building Lamar Jackson’s offense. Now he has to stop it, if Jackson plays.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Baltimore is 4-1, leads the AFC North and has won three straight, the last in overtime at Atlanta with Huntley at quarterback. Cleveland is 3-2, one game back in a three-way tie with Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, after finishing last at 5-12 a year ago.
It is the first division game for both, and the Browns have lost three straight to Baltimore, including both meetings in 2025 by a combined 64-33.
3 · The Storylines
Monken against the offense he built. Todd Monken was Baltimore’s coordinator for three seasons, including Jackson’s 2023 MVP year. Marlon Humphrey called him “one of my favorite coaches of all time” and said Monken will want to “kick our tails.”
Jesse Minter, first-year head coach, calls the other side. Minter runs Baltimore’s defense himself, so the play-calling matchup is head coach against head coach. He called any familiarity edge “probably overblown.”
Cleveland’s offense is the problem. The Browns are 29th in yards and 26th in EPA per play, and score 1.55 points per drive. Quinshon Judkins is averaging 3.0 yards a carry. Watson was sacked on nearly a quarter of his dropbacks against the Jets.
Derrick Henry is still Derrick Henry. 476 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, with 102 yards at Atlanta. Baltimore’s win streak began when Nnamdi Madubuike returned in Week 3.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Jackson’s ankle is the headline, but Cleveland’s report is the more striking one: eleven players did not practise Wednesday, including four defensive tackles (Mason Graham, Mike Hall, Maliek Collins, Kalia Davis), defensive end Derek Barnett and linebacker Carson Schwesinger, the team’s leading tackler. That is the run defense that has to stop Henry. Both Browns running backs and two offensive linemen were also out.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Baltimore’s offense is fifth in EPA per play and scores 29.2 a game, and it held up with Huntley last week. The defense is average (16th). Cleveland’s defense is 15th and was the reason the Browns started 3-1; its offense is 26th and gained 198 yards against the Jets.
The schedules pull in opposite directions. Baltimore’s rates the second-easiest in the league (opponents 7-18); Cleveland’s the fourth-hardest. That is why a 4-1 team and a 3-2 team carry nearly the same SRS, and it is a reason not to make Baltimore a bigger favorite than the line already does.

Cleveland has scored more than 23 points once. Baltimore’s last three wins came by 3, 6 and 7.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Henry against a Cleveland interior missing four tackles. If Graham, Hall and Collins cannot go, Cleveland’s run defense is backups in the middle, and Baltimore can win this without needing much from its quarterback. Watch the first two series: if Henry has 40 yards before the second quarter, Cleveland’s offense has to score in the 20s to keep up, and it has done that once.
Ravens 24, Browns 17
Assuming Jackson plays, Baltimore has the better quarterback, the better offense and a clear run-game edge against a Browns front decimated by injury. Monken knows the Ravens, but knowing is not the same as having the players to stop them.

Cleveland Browns · +5.5
The line has moved three points on Jackson’s ankle and he has not practised. If Huntley starts again, this is a field-goal game, and Cleveland’s defense was good enough to start 3-1. Baltimore’s schedule has been the second-easiest in the league. Monken knows which Ravens protections bend, and the Browns are 3-1 against the spread. A low-scoring game against a backup is how Cleveland wins.

The league’s worst offense goes to a building where it has lost three straight, against a defense that has been nearly as bad.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Tennessee is 0-5 and 6-33 since the start of 2024. Indianapolis is 2-3, coming off a 34-22 loss at Pittsburgh, and cannot afford to give back a home division game to the worst team in the league.
For Tennessee the reason to watch is smaller: whether Saleh’s first season finds a floor, and whether the second-year quarterback the franchise drafted first overall shows anything at all.
3 · The Storylines
Robert Saleh is 0-5. The Titans are last in the league in yards (246.4 a game) and points (11.6). Brian Daboll is the coordinator. Ward was sacked four times in the final eleven minutes against Houston.
Ward is not under siege. He has faced the lowest blitz rate in the league (20.5%) and the ninth-lowest pressure rate, per Warren Sharp, and still ranks near the bottom in yards per attempt and EPA per play. The usual excuse for a young quarterback does not apply.
Jones’s comeback year. He was one of the most efficient passers in the league in 2025 before the Achilles tear. This year Indianapolis is 22nd in EPA per play and has kept settling for field goals in the red zone.
Jonathan Taylor’s quiet week. 398 rushing yards and six touchdowns, but 15 carries for 45 yards at Pittsburgh. He was limited Wednesday.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Indianapolis is thinner than the line suggests: top corner Charvarius Ward (groin) and receiver Keenan Allen did not practise, and Alec Pierce and edge Arden Key are on injured reserve. Tennessee’s most important absence is Tony Pollard, which would leave Tyjae Spears as the lead back.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Tennessee scores 1.16 points per drive, the fewest in the league by a distance, and its SRS of −13.2 is the worst. Its defense is not the problem: 21.8 points allowed a game is close to league average. Indianapolis is 22nd on offense and 27th on defense by EPA, and allows 27.6 points a game.
The Colts have won six straight in the series, by an average of 14 points. Tennessee’s schedule rates easy (29th); Indianapolis’s medium.

Tennessee has not scored more than 20 points in any game. Indianapolis’s three losses came to Baltimore, Kansas City and Pittsburgh.
6 · The Thing To Watch
The Colts inside the 20. Indianapolis has moved the ball and stalled near the goal line. Against a Tennessee offense this weak, three field goals keep the Titans alive and three touchdowns end it. Watch Taylor’s carries inside the 10: if Steichen trusts him there, the Colts cover; if they throw on third-and-goal, it stays close.
Colts 24, Titans 17
Indianapolis is not good enough to blow anyone out, but Tennessee is bad enough to lose to almost anyone. The Colts win by a touchdown and the Titans score late.

Indianapolis’s defense is 27th by EPA and is missing its best corner, and the Colts’ offense keeps kicking field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. Tennessee’s defense is respectable; it covered at Baltimore as an 11.5-point underdog. Unders are 4-1 in Titans games. If this is 13-10 into the fourth quarter, a Ward scramble or a short field from a Jones turnover is enough.

| Venue | Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA · Open air |

| Weather | NWS: sunny, about 51°F at kickoff, northwest wind near 7 mph, no rain. Friday’s rain is gone by Sunday. |
Drake Maye is playing like the best quarterback in the division; the Jets have lost 14 of their last 15 in this building.
2 · Why This Game Matters
New England is 3-2 after two straight wins, the last a 45-17 rout of the Raiders. The Jets are 2-3 and coming off a 17-12 win over Cleveland. It is the first division game for both and the first real look at whether Mike Vrabel’s Patriots are the class of the AFC East behind Buffalo.
History is not on the Jets’ side: they have lost 14 of their last 15 at Foxborough, dating to 2011, and New England has swept the series in eight of the last ten years.
3 · The Storylines
Drake Maye is hot. He is the first Patriots quarterback with back-to-back games of three or more touchdown passes since Tom Brady in 2018. New England has scored 74 points in two weeks.
David Bailey is the Jets’ best player already. The rookie edge rusher has five sacks, three of them against Cleveland, where the Jets sacked Deshaun Watson eight times. He was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Aaron Glenn took the defense back. In his second year, after a 3-14 debut, Glenn now calls the defense himself and Frank Reich runs the offense. The Jets’ defense is fifth in EPA allowed.
A.J. Brown might return. The Patriots’ receiver has been out since a Week 1 high ankle sprain and was designated to return. “There’s a chance, yep, there is,” Vrabel said.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Breece Hall has missed two games with a quad injury and did not practise, so Braelon Allen carries the load again. New England’s concern is up front and at corner: left tackle Will Campbell (knee) was limited, Christian Gonzalez is trying to return after two missed games, and Carlton Davis III did not practise.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
The Patriots’ offense has turned: 11th by EPA for the season, +0.13 per play over the last three weeks. Their defense has slipped the other way, to +0.11 over the same stretch, and their run defense has been one of the worst in the league. The Jets’ defense is fifth by EPA; their offense is 20th and has scored more than 23 points once.
New England’s schedule has been the second-hardest in the league; the Jets’ rates easy (22nd). That is why New England’s SRS (+7.5) is so far above its 3-2 record.

The Jets have allowed 19.2 points a game. New England’s two losses came at Seattle and Jacksonville.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Bailey against a limited Will Campbell. Maye has been sharp because he has had time. If Campbell is less than himself at left tackle, Bailey gets the matchup that produced three sacks last week. Watch New England’s first third-and-long: a quick throw means Vrabel respects the rush; a long-developing shot means he trusts the line.
Patriots 23, Jets 17
New England is the better team and the Jets have not won here in years, but the Jets’ defense is good enough to keep this inside a touchdown. Maye throws for two and Smith does not turn it over, which is exactly why it stays close.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
New York Jets · +7.5
The Jets have the better defense by EPA and the league’s hottest rookie pass rusher against a Patriots left tackle playing hurt. Smith has not thrown an interception all season, so New England has to drive the length of the field, and its run defense gives the Jets a way to shorten the game with Allen. A 17-13 game into the fourth quarter is the Jets’ game, history or not.

Jameis Winston against the team he played for, with Drew Brees in the booth and Kellen Moore’s job on the line.
2 · Why This Game Matters
The Giants lead the NFC East at 3-1-1 and have not lost in four games under John Harbaugh. The Saints are 1-4, have lost three straight, all at home, and their owner went public on Monday.
“We are 1-4. That is not acceptable to me,” Gayle Benson said. “Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform.” Moore went 6-11 last year. A fourth straight loss, before a trip to Paris, would be hard to survive.
3 · The Storylines
Kellen Moore is coaching for his job. Benson’s statement is about as close to a public ultimatum as owners get. New Orleans has been outscored by 33 points and its defense is last in the league in success rate allowed.
Winston against his old team. He played for the Saints from 2020 to 2023. Against Washington he rallied the Giants from 14 down in the fourth quarter and became the first Giant since 1950 with 300 passing yards, three touchdown passes and 25 rushing yards in a game.
Brees calls the Saints, again. It is his second Saints game in as many weeks for FOX.
Arvell Reese has arrived. The Giants’ rookie linebacker is the first Giant in 30 years with 40 or more tackles in his first five games. Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely each had 11 catches last week.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Both teams are banged up where it matters. Abdul Carter, the Giants’ best pass rusher (17 pressures), did not practise with a calf injury, and both starting tackles sat Wednesday — Andrew Thomas’s absence is routine early in the week. For New Orleans, Chris Olave’s illness is the item to watch, and Alvin Kamara was limited with a back injury.

Designations from Wednesday’s official practice reports; game statuses are set Friday.
5 · How These Teams Match Up
New Orleans has the worst defense in the league by success rate allowed (50.5%) and is 26th by EPA. The Giants’ offense is 17th, better since Winston took over, and their defense has been stingier over the last three weeks (−0.10 EPA per play).
Here the components disagree. The Giants are 3-1-1 and have outscored opponents by three points, but they have played the easiest schedule in the league (opponents 6-18-1), which leaves their SRS at −6.8. The Saints’ slate rates hard (7th). Records say the Giants are much better; adjusted margins say the gap is small.

Efficiency (success rate, %; bar scale 0–60)
Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Four of New Orleans’s five games were decided by seven or more. The Giants have played three one-score games, one of them a tie.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Winston on early downs against the league’s worst defense by success rate. The Saints cannot get off the field: half of opponents’ plays succeed. Winston will throw; the question is whether he throws into coverage. If New York is at 20 points by halftime without a turnover, it is over. If Winston gives the Saints two short fields, Shough does not need to do much.
Giants 24, Saints 20
The Giants are not as good as 3-1-1, but they are at home, playing with a quarterback in rhythm, against the worst defense on the board. Winston throws one he should not, and still wins.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
New York Giants · +1.5
The betting underdog is the forecast’s pick. The Giants need Winston to stay on the right side of his turnovers and need Carter on the field to keep Shough, who has fumbled five times, under pressure. The Saints’ defense is the weakest in the league by success rate; a Giants offense that just scored 27 on the road should find 24 at home.

1 · The Setup
| Kickoff | Sunday, Oct 18, 2026 · 10:00 AM PT |
| Venue | Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA · Open air |

| In the booth | Ian Eagle (play-by-play), Ross Tucker (analyst), Evan Washburn (sideline) |
| Weather | NWS: sunny, about 54°F at kickoff, north wind near 5 mph, rain chance 4%. |
Philadelphia is a home underdog to Carolina, and Nick Sirianni has never lost four in a row.
2 · Why This Game Matters
The Eagles are 2-3 and have lost three straight, the last on a 57-yard field goal at the gun in London. They are below .500 for the first time since 2021, a game and a half behind the Giants. Sirianni is 67-33 in Philadelphia and this is his third three-game losing streak; he has never lost a fourth.
Carolina is 2-2, leads the NFC South, and comes off its bye. Its 30.3 points a game is a franchise best through four games.
3 · The Storylines
Sirianni’s seat. “My sense is the concern is quite high,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported. CBS listed him second in the odds to be the first coach fired after Week 5.
The Philadelphia offense has collapsed. 18.4 points a game is the fewest through five games since 2012, 262.2 yards the fewest since 1999, and 3.59 yards per play is last in the league. The Eagles have two second-half touchdowns all season.
Bryce Young, finally. The former first overall pick leads the league in passing yards per game. Rookie Tetairoa McMillan had 14 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns against Detroit; Chuba Hubbard ran for 122.
A schedule quirk. Teams coming off an international game against an opponent coming off its bye are 0-4 this decade, averaging 15.25 points, per CBS’s John Breech.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
This is where the Eagles’ problem gets worse. Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is doubtful and DeVonta Smith (hamstring/toe) doubtful-to-out per PhillyVoice; Will Shipley is out, which leaves Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele. Without Barkley and Smith, the Eagles have averaged 3.5 yards per play. Pass rusher Jalyx Hunt is a long shot. Carolina’s right tackle Monroe Freeling did not practise; Jaycee Horn is on injured reserve.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Philadelphia’s offense is 30th by EPA for the season and has been the worst in the league over the last three weeks (−0.26 per play). The defense is 24th. Carolina’s offense is eighth by EPA and has scored 2.57 points per drive; its defense is average (21st).
Carolina’s schedule rates hard (8th); Philadelphia’s medium. The Eagles’ SRS (−4.8) puts them in the bottom third of the league.

Philadelphia has not scored more than 20 since Week 2. Carolina has scored at least 26 in three of four.
6 · The Thing To Watch
The Eagles on first down without Barkley. Philadelphia’s offense has lived on Barkley runs and Hurts throws to Smith; neither may be available. Watch first-down play calls. If Philadelphia is in second-and-long by habit, Carolina can rush four and sit on the short throws, and the Eagles’ second-half scoring problem follows.
Panthers 23, Eagles 17
Carolina is rested, healthy at quarterback and playing a team without its two best skill players. The Eagles’ defense keeps it close for a half, and then the Panthers do what the Eagles cannot: score after halftime.

Hurts is healthy, Jalen Carter practised in full, and Carolina’s defense is only 21st by EPA. The Panthers have not played on the road since a loss at Cleveland, and Young was pressured on 40% of his dropbacks against Detroit. If Barkley is cleared on Friday, the Eagles get back the one player who changes their offense, and a desperate home team with a coach on the edge can win ugly.

| Venue | Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL · Open air |

| Weather | NWS: mostly sunny, about 76°F at kickoff, east-northeast wind 14–17 mph with gusts near 31. The wind is the factor, for kickers and deep balls both. |
A 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers against an undrafted rookie who just won his first NFL game, in a wind that will make both of them think twice.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Pittsburgh is 3-2, a game behind Baltimore. Tampa Bay is 1-4 but only a game out of the NFC South lead, and it has had ten days to rest since the Thursday win at Dallas.
That win was the first of Daniels’s career and the Bucs’ first of the season. A second would put them back in the division race; a loss leaves them 1-5 waiting on Mayfield’s thumb.
3 · The Storylines
Rodgers and Mike McCarthy, reunited. McCarthy coached Rodgers in Green Bay for 13 seasons. Tampa Bay has beaten Rodgers in four of seven meetings, including the 2020 NFC Championship.
Jalon Daniels, the first. He is the first undrafted rookie quarterback to start for Tampa Bay and the first rookie quarterback to start anywhere this season. Todd Bowles: “Right now, we plan on starting Jalon Daniels.”
Two running games. Bucky Irving ran for a career-high 165 yards at Dallas, where Tampa Bay ran for 241. Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren has 410 rushing yards at 5.9 a carry and leads the team in receiving.
T.J. Watt against a rookie. Watt has 4.5 sacks. Daniels was pressured on 42.9% of his dropbacks in his debut against Green Bay.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Pittsburgh’s defense is patched: tackle Keeanu Benton (ankle) did not practise, Jalen Ramsey is playing through a broken wrist, and Jamel Dean was limited. Tampa Bay is still without Mayfield and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (fractured rib), but gets corner Benjamin Morrison back to practice.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Tampa Bay’s defense is seventh by EPA and has been better still over the last three weeks. Its offense ranks 27th, though most of that came with Mayfield, who ranked last among starters in adjusted EPA before he was hurt. Pittsburgh’s offense is 21st for the season but has been much better over the last three weeks (+0.16 per play); its defense has gone the other way.
Both schedules rate hard (Pittsburgh 9th, Tampa Bay 6th). ESPN’s FPI makes Pittsburgh a 61% favorite.

All five of Tampa Bay’s games were decided by eight points or fewer. Pittsburgh has alternated wins and losses all season.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Tampa Bay’s run game into the wind. A 17 mph wind with gusts past 30 takes away deep throws and long field goals in one direction. The team that runs well wins that half. Irving against a Pittsburgh front missing Benton is the matchup: if Tampa Bay gets four yards a carry, Daniels plays from favorable downs and Rodgers sits.
Buccaneers 20, Steelers 17
Tampa Bay has the better defense, the rest advantage and the home field, and the wind narrows the gap between a 42-year-old Hall of Famer and an undrafted rookie. The Bucs run it, keep it short, and win a close one.

Tampa Bay needs Daniels to stay as clean as he was at Dallas, where he threw no interceptions, and needs Irving to keep the Bucs ahead of the chains against a Pittsburgh front missing Benton. The defense, seventh by EPA, has kept all five games within eight points. In a game this low, one turnover by a 42-year-old is the difference.
Game 10 of 14 · Sunday, Oct 18 · 1:05 PM PT
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
ARI under center
Jacoby Brissett
Week 1 starter
Arizona released Kyler Murray in March; Brissett is the starter. Last in the league at 5.6 yards per attempt; Arizona is 2-15 in his starts.
LA under center
Matthew Stafford
Week 1 starter
Leads the league in completions (139), attempts (216) and yards (1,572). Four straight 300-yard games; 40 of 54 for 383 Monday.
1 · The Setup
| Kickoff | Sunday, Oct 18, 2026 · 1:05 PM PT |
| Venue | SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA · Fixed translucent canopy, open sides |
| Broadcast | FOX |
| In the booth | Kenny Albert (play-by-play) per Awful Announcing’s list; analyst and sideline reported as Greg Olsen and Pam Oliver, which crosses two of FOX’s standing crews — treat as unconfirmed |
| Weather | NWS: sunny and hot, about 84°F at kickoff, calm wind. The canopy keeps sun and rain off the field; the heat still applies. |
The league’s busiest passer against the league’s most generous pass defense, six days after a 54-attempt overtime game.
2 · Why This Game Matters
The Rams are 2-3 after losing 37-34 in overtime to Buffalo on Monday, three games behind 5-0 San Francisco. They have lost two of their last three. Arizona is 1-4 and has lost four straight since beating the Chargers in the opener.
For the Rams, a home division game against the worst defense in the league is the reset they need. For Arizona, the season has become about what comes after: it traded Marvin Harrison Jr. to Houston during last week’s 45-21 loss to Detroit.
3 · The Storylines
Stafford is throwing more than anyone. He has thrown 51 or more passes in each of the last three games. Puka Nacua caught 17 of 24 targets for 138 yards on Monday; Davante Adams leads the team with 441 receiving yards.
Arizona’s defense has allowed 30 in four straight. It gives up a league-worst 32.4 points a game, 9.1 yards per pass attempt and a touchdown on 10.1% of throws. Safety Budda Baker did not practise Wednesday.
The Murray subplot. Arizona released Kyler Murray in March and still owes him $36 million. Minnesota signed him for $1.3 million; the Vikings are 5-0 and he is 3-0 as their starter.
Aaron Donald is off the injury report. The 35-year-old missed Week 4 with a back injury, played Monday and recovered James Cook’s fumble in overtime. Myles Garrett, acquired from Cleveland in June, remains on injured reserve after knee surgery.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Arizona’s secondary is the absence that matters: Budda Baker did not practise, and safeties Wydett Williams Jr. (concussion protocol) and Andrew Wingard (knee) were out too, against a quarterback who throws 50 times a game. Rookie back Jeremiyah Love (ankle) is doubtful to be effective, which puts Tyler Allgeier in the backfield. The Rams’ report was estimated after a walkthrough.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Over the last three weeks Arizona’s defense has allowed +0.23 EPA per play, the worst in the league over that span, and 29th for the season. The Rams’ offense is ninth by EPA and outgains opponents by 139 yards a game, best in the league per Sharp Football; their defense is tenth and allows a 54.8% completion rate.
Arizona’s offense is 16th by EPA, better than its quarterback’s yards per attempt suggests, because it has had to throw late in lopsided games. The Rams have won four straight in the series and are 16-3 against Arizona under Sean McVay. Both schedules rate medium.

Arizona’s last four games were decided by 24, 6, 12 and 24. The Rams’ three losses came by 20, 4 and 3.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Stafford against a secondary missing three safeties. Arizona cannot cover and may not have the people to try. Watch the Rams’ first three possessions: if Nacua and Adams are open on the first read, McVay will keep throwing and this is decided by halftime. The only drag is the short week; if the Rams look slow early, the second half could get closer than the line implies.
Rams 31, Cardinals 20
The Rams win comfortably and Stafford throws for 300 again. Arizona scores enough late against a tired defense to stay inside the number.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Arizona Cardinals · +12.5
The case is thin. Arizona has the worst defense in the league over the last three weeks and a quarterback averaging 5.6 yards an attempt. What would have to break its way: a Rams team on six days’ rest after a 54-attempt overtime loss starting flat, and a kicking problem — Harrison Mevis missed twice and had a 48-yarder blocked on Monday — turning touchdowns into misses. Arizona did score 30 at San Francisco.
Game 11 of 14 · Sunday, Oct 18 · 1:25 PM PT
Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
LAC under center
Justin Herbert
Week 1 starter
Five touchdowns, seven interceptions, 17 sacks; co-leads the league in turnovers. No fourth-quarter touchdown all season.
KC under center
Patrick Mahomes
Week 1 starter
Back from the torn ACL he suffered against the Chargers last December. Nine touchdowns, two interceptions, 106.2 rating.
1 · The Setup
| Kickoff | Sunday, Oct 18, 2026 · 1:25 PM PT |
| Venue | GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO · Open air |
| Broadcast | CBS (regional) |
| In the booth | Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), Trent Green (analyst), Melanie Collins (sideline) |
| Weather | NWS: sunny, high near 67°F; no rain chance listed (below 20%). Wind not stated in the forecast. |
Patrick Mahomes faces the team he tore his ACL against, and the Chargers are one loss from tying the worst start in franchise history.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Kansas City is 4-0, leads the AFC West and comes off its bye. The Chargers are 0-5 for the first time since 2003 after two straight 11-win seasons. A loss would make 0-6, matching the 2000 team that went 1-15 — with Jim Harbaugh as one of its quarterbacks.
The last time these teams met, Dec 14 at Arrowhead, the Chargers won 16-13, eliminated Kansas City from the playoffs, and Mahomes tore his ACL late in the game. The Chargers won both meetings last year.
3 · The Storylines
Mahomes, back where it happened. He has returned without obvious loss: 9-2 touchdowns to interceptions and ninth in EPA per dropback, per CBS. Kansas City has scored 30 or more in three of four games.
The Chargers are coming apart. Against Denver they led 17-10 entering the fourth quarter and lost 23-17. Herbert’s last four drives ended in a fourth-and-1 stuff, a fumble, an interception and a sack. Harbaugh says he is “hellbent on turning it around.” The Chargers have 13 turnovers, most in the league.
Kenneth Walker III has been Kansas City’s best signing. 537 rushing yards at 6.2 a carry in four games, with six total touchdowns.
Mike McDaniel’s first year. The new Chargers coordinator’s offense ranks last in EPA per play. Kansas City safety Alohi Gilman, a former Charger, expects shifts, motion and gadget plays.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
The Chargers’ offensive line is the story. Rashawn Slater is on injured reserve, Joe Alt (neck) and Kayode Awosika (fibula) did not practise, and Herbert has been sacked 17 times. Leading receiver Tre’ Harris (hamstring) and Derwin James Jr. (hamstring) also sat. Kansas City is without Rashee Rice, who is unlikely to play, but left tackle Josh Simmons practised for the first time in two months.

Designations from Wednesday’s official practice reports; game statuses are set Friday.
5 · How These Teams Match Up
The Chargers’ offense is last in the league in EPA per play and scores 1.40 points a drive. Their defense is sixth, which is why they have lost by 12, 12, 8, 7 and 6 rather than worse. Kansas City is fourth on offense and eighth on defense.
Kansas City’s 4-0 has come against an easy schedule (24th); the Chargers’ rates medium. Kansas City’s wins over Indianapolis and Las Vegas came by three points each.

Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Every Chargers loss has been by 12 points or fewer. Kansas City has won two of its four by a field goal.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Herbert’s protection on third down. With a backup at left tackle and possibly at right tackle and left guard, the Chargers cannot hold up long enough for anything downfield. Watch whether McDaniel commits to the quick game and the run, or asks Herbert to hold the ball. If the Chargers get to third-and-short, they can stay in it; third-and-eight is a sack or a turnover.
Chiefs 27, Chargers 17
Kansas City is rested and whole at quarterback; the Chargers’ line is not whole anywhere. The Chargers’ defense keeps it to one score into the third quarter, and then a turnover decides it.

The Chargers’ defense is sixth by EPA, and none of their five losses has been by more than 12. They beat Kansas City twice last season, both close. Rice is out, Simmons is easing back, and Andy Reid is 8-11 against the spread after a bye. If the Chargers’ defense forces two Kansas City punts early and McDaniel keeps Herbert out of third-and-long, a 20-17 game into the fourth is realistic.

The highest total on the board: Josh Allen on a short week against the defense that takes the ball away more than anyone.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Buffalo is 4-1 under first-year coach Joe Brady after beating the Rams 37-34 in overtime on Monday, its first overtime win with Allen. The Bills stayed out West rather than fly home. Las Vegas is 3-2 under first-year coach Klint Kubiak, but lost its last two to Kansas City and 45-17 at New England.
A Raiders win would put them level with Denver at 4-2 behind Kansas City; a loss is their third straight.
3 · The Storylines
Allen did something nobody had done. On Monday he became the first player to average 10 or more yards per attempt and 10 or more per carry in the same game (minimum ten of each), per CBS.
The turnover matchup. Buffalo had no giveaways in its first two games and nine in the last three. Las Vegas has ten takeaways, tied for the league lead. “The fumbles have to stop,” Brady said of James Cook, who ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns Monday.
Maxx Crosby against Greg Rousseau. Crosby has 36 pressures, third in the league; Rousseau has 43, tied for first, and blocked a field goal on Monday.
Cousins, with Mendoza waiting. Kubiak says Cousins remains the starter but will not commit beyond that. Mendoza played one drive in Week 5. Brock Bowers needs 22 catches to pass Trey McBride for the most by a tight end in his first three seasons.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Buffalo’s receiver room is short: DJ Moore (shoulder) sat out Monday and is week-to-week, and right tackle Spencer Brown (back) left Monday’s game. Ed Oliver (knee) did not practise. Las Vegas has two players in concussion protocol and Bowers limited with a knee.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Buffalo has the most efficient offense in the league by EPA per play and scores 32.8 a game. Its defense is 30th and allows 28.2. Las Vegas is 14th on offense and 19th on defense, and has been worse on defense over the last three weeks (+0.15 EPA per play).
Neither schedule has been hard: Buffalo’s rates medium (17th), Las Vegas’s medium (21st). The Raiders’ running game is 28th in the league, and Ashton Jeanty has not topped 58 yards since Week 1.

Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
Buffalo’s games have averaged 61 combined points. Las Vegas’s three wins all came in the first three weeks.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Allen’s ball security against Las Vegas’s takeaways. Buffalo should move the ball on every possession against a defense this porous. The only thing that stops it is Buffalo: Allen extending plays into Crosby, Cook putting it on the ground. Watch the first time Allen scrambles to his left under pressure. If he throws it away, Buffalo wins by more than a score; if he forces it, Las Vegas is in this.
Bills 30, Raiders 27
Buffalo scores whenever it holds on to the ball, and it will hold on to it often enough. Its defense will not stop Cousins and Bowers either. The Bills win a shootout, a little closer than the line.

Two Buffalo turnovers turn a shootout into a Raiders win.
Game 13 of 14 · Sunday, Oct 18 · 5:20 PM PT
Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers

GB under center
Jordan Love
Week 1 starter
367 yards and two touchdowns against Chicago. Against Dallas, playoffs included: 47 of 64, 609 yards, six touchdowns, no interceptions.
1 · The Setup
| Kickoff | Sunday, Oct 18, 2026 · 5:20 PM PT |
| Venue | Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI · Open air |
| Broadcast | NBC and Peacock (Sunday Night Football) |
| In the booth | Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst), Melissa Stark (sideline), Terry McAulay (rules analyst) |
| Weather | NWS: clear, about 57°F at kickoff falling to near 51°F, south-southwest wind near 10 mph, no rain. |
Last year these teams tied 40-40. This year Dallas brings the league’s worst defense to a quarterback who has never thrown an interception against it.
2 · Why This Game Matters
Dallas is 2-3 and has alternated losses and wins all season; the latest was a 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay as a 9.5-point favorite. It sits a game and a half behind the Giants. Green Bay is 3-2 and has won two straight, the last 31-7 over Chicago.
Dallas has had ten days to prepare. Green Bay’s defense is missing both starting corners and two defensive tackles.
3 · The Storylines
Micah Parsons will not play. The centre of the 2025 trade is still on PUP after tearing his ACL last December. “I don’t need revenge. I just need two healthy knees,” he said this week.
Love owns Dallas. His 134.2 rating against the Cowboys is the best of any quarterback with 50 or more attempts against them, per the Packers. Christian Watson had 143 yards against Chicago.
Dallas cannot stop the run. Tampa Bay ran for 241 yards on it last week. Under first-year coordinator Christian Parker the Cowboys allow 168.8 rushing yards a game and have five sacks in five games.
The last meeting. A 40-40 overtime tie in Arlington on Sept 28, 2025, the second-highest-scoring tie in league history. Matt LaFleur is 3-0-1 against Dallas.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
Green Bay’s secondary is the absence that decides this. Keisean Nixon (groin) and Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring) did not practise, which could leave rookie Brandon Cisse and Carrington Valentine against CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Javon Hargrave’s Achilles is reported torn and nose tackle Jonathan Ford sat. Dallas is again without DeMarvion Overshown and Cobie Durant.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
Dallas has the worst defense in the league by EPA per play and allows a 51.8% success rate. Its offense is seventh and scores 2.94 points a drive. Green Bay’s offense is 18th for the season but has been much better over the last three weeks (+0.10 EPA per play); its defense is 11th.
The schedules differ sharply: Green Bay’s rates hard (5th), Dallas’s easy (30th). Dallas’s 2-3 has come against the third-easiest slate in the league.

Dallas games have averaged 54.8 combined points. Green Bay has won its last two by a combined 27.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Lamb and Pickens against Green Bay’s backup corners. If Nixon and St-Juste cannot go, Green Bay has to choose between safety help over the top and an eighth man against the run, and Dallas can run on nobody. Watch Green Bay’s safeties on early downs. Single-high means Lamb gets one-on-one chances; two-high means the Packers trust their front, which is missing two tackles.
Packers 30, Cowboys 24
Green Bay runs on the league’s worst defense and Love does what he always does against Dallas. Lamb gets his yards against the backup corners, enough to keep it a game, not enough to win it.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Dallas Cowboys · +1.5
Green Bay will start backups at both corner spots against Lamb and Pickens, and Dallas has had ten days to plan for it. The Cowboys’ offense is seventh by EPA and Prescott’s two interceptions last week bounced off receivers’ hands. If Dallas scores on its first two drives and makes Green Bay throw, the Packers’ thin interior cannot get pressure and this becomes last year’s 40-40 game.
Game 14 of 14 · Monday, Oct 19 · 5:15 PM PT
Washington Commanders at San Francisco 49ers
WAS under center
Jayden Daniels
Week 1 starter
Dislocated his left elbow in Week 2, missed two games, returned in a brace in Week 5: 199 passing, 103 rushing and two rushing touchdowns.
SF under center
Brock Purdy
Week 1 starter
1,196 yards and 13 touchdowns. San Francisco leads the league in third-down conversions (51.9%) and has allowed two sacks all season.
1 · The Setup
| Kickoff | Monday, Oct 19, 2026 · 5:15 PM PT |
| Venue | Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA · Open air |
| Broadcast | ESPN and ABC simulcast (per the 49ers’ schedule; ESPN’s press room unreachable). No ManningCast this week. |
| In the booth | Joe Buck (play-by-play), Troy Aikman (analyst), Lisa Salters and Laura Rutledge (sideline) |
| Weather | NWS, four days out and not yet firm: mostly sunny, about 65°F at kickoff, west-northwest wind near 12 mph, falling to the upper 50s. |
The league’s last unbeaten team against a coach whose seat is getting warm, and a quarterback who runs like nobody else.
2 · Why This Game Matters
San Francisco is 5-0 and leads the NFC West by two games after a 32-29 win at Seattle. Washington is 1-3-1, last in the NFC East, and blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in Sunday’s 27-27 tie with the Giants.
Dan Quinn is 18-20-1 in Washington and 6-15-1 since the start of 2025. Josina Anderson reports he is safe for now. A blowout on national television would test that.
3 · The Storylines
Deebo Samuel will miss his old team’s game. Washington’s leading receiver last season is back in San Francisco this year and out with a hamstring strain.
The overtime that ended on the field. Daniels scrambled for no gain at the Giants’ 24 with 12 seconds left and no timeouts, and time ran out. Quinn took the blame. Daniels’ 38-yard touchdown run in that game hit 20.54 mph, the fastest of his career per Next Gen Stats; he is now tied with Sammy Baugh for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in franchise history.
San Francisco’s linebackers are thin. Dre Greenlaw is suspended for the incident on Seattle’s sideline and Garret Wallow is out at least a couple of weeks. Nick Bosa, out three games with a calf, called a return “pretty darn likely” for one of the next two games.
Mike Evans, in red and gold. He had 113 yards and a touchdown at Seattle while playing through a rib injury. George Kittle has four touchdown catches; Fred Warner has 50 tackles.
4 · Who’s Missing and Why It Matters
The absences that matter are at linebacker. Without Greenlaw and Wallow, Warner and whoever plays next to him have to account for a quarterback who ran for 103 yards on Sunday. Washington has been without left tackle Laremy Tunsil (triceps) since August and lost Javontae Jean-Baptiste (pectoral) in Week 5.

5 · How These Teams Match Up
San Francisco is second in the league in offensive EPA per play and first in success rate (52.7%); its defense is fourth. Washington’s offense is 15th and its defense 22nd, allowing 29.8 points a game. Washington is +5 in turnover margin, which has kept it in games its yardage would not.
One caution on the 49ers: their schedule rates easy (26th), opponents 9-16. Washington’s also rates easy (28th).

Efficiency (success rate, %; bar scale 0–60)
Form (final margin by week, points; bar scale ±35, centre line = 0)
San Francisco’s last two wins came by ten and three. Washington has allowed 30 or more three times.
6 · The Thing To Watch
Daniels on the move against a 49ers defense without two linebackers. On called runs and scrambles, San Francisco has to keep someone on Daniels, and that job usually falls to a linebacker it does not have. Watch third-and-medium. If Daniels escapes and gains it, Washington stays in the game; if Warner gets to him first, the 49ers’ offense has enough to pull away.
49ers 31, Commanders 20
San Francisco is better at almost everything and at home on a normal week. Daniels makes enough plays to keep it interesting into the third quarter; the 49ers convert the third downs he cannot.

8 · The Underdog’s Case
Washington Commanders · +7.5
Washington is +5 in turnovers and has a quarterback the 49ers cannot spy with the linebackers they have left. San Francisco’s 5-0 has come against an easy schedule, its last two wins were by ten and three, and Samuel is out. If Daniels runs for 80 and the Commanders win the turnover battle again, a defense allowing 29.8 a game only has to hold San Francisco to two field goals.
