How it started
In Ray’s words
Last year I saw myself in a photo and didn’t recognize the guy. I’d always been the skinny one; 40 pounds had snuck up on me.
I had the tools: an Apple Watch, an iPhone, Apple Health. Apple Health showed me plenty of numbers but didn’t make sense of them. Getting the data out was screenshot after screenshot. And I didn’t love the idea of my health data sitting on yet another server.
I knew what I wanted. I didn’t know how to write the code, and I don’t have medical training. So I leaned heavily on Claude Code to read the published research with me, and then to turn my ideas, and the science behind them, into features.
My first app just exported my Apple Health data. Then I decided to build a full health app, which in hindsight is not where you start. Months of late nights, early mornings and weekends. I was so obsessed I couldn’t sleep. The irony wasn’t lost on me: the app meant to improve my health cost me a lot of sleep, and it made sure I knew it.
The weight came off in about six months and has stayed off. That app became Priv8Vitals, now shared with anyone who wants their numbers to make sense.
“My goal is to make the people around me a little better every day.”
I’ve been frustrated my whole life by things that were built badly: corners cut to save money, or software written by someone whose heart wasn’t in it. It shouldn’t have to be that way. So when I build an app, I go deep: full featured, and tunable to the way you like it. Priv8Vitals came first. Priv8Scout followed, built the same way.
